Step 2 - You will want to cover up everything that you care about. You will need to block off vents as to not let dust get into your air ducts and into your home in Phoenix Arizona. You will need to cover up any door openings, dishes, books, furniture, electronics etc. There will be a ton of tile dust and not a good way to stop it unless you have the money to either purchase a dustless tile removal tool or use a company that offers dustless tile removal. Otherwise you must protect your home the best you can and be prepared to clean after all demo is completed. DIY Tile Removal Phoenix Arizona

Step 3 – You will need a pretty good size sledge hammer for this step. You will want to drop a sledge hammer on the tile, there will be a sweet spot on the tile that should loosen up the tile. You might even find that just by dropping the sledge hammer on the tile that some tile will just pop off. You are not trying to break the tile at this point, you are trying to loosen the bond from the thin set to the concrete. If you start banging on the tile, you will use up all of your energy and you might start getting little piece flying up that might cut you. Tile is very sharp when broken into pieces so please be careful. DIY Tile Removal Phoenix Arizona

Step 4 – You will need an electric or battery-operated chisel, a hammer and a small hand-held chisel for the corners and tight spaces. If you do not own an electric or battery-operated chisel you can rent one at your local hardware store. To do this step by hand will take a very long time. You will want to chisel all the tile up that you can. Do not use an electric or battery-operated chisel by cabinets this part is best done by hand. You do not want to scratch your cabinets or even damage them. Once all tile is removed there will be thin set left on the ground. You might want to remove the baseboards before removing the tile. It might make it easier to remove the tile without damaging your baseboards. DIY Tile Removal Phoenix Arizona

Step 5 – You will need a flat blade attachment for the chisel and a vacuum. Use the flat blade to get the rest of the thin set off the floor. You might need to use a grinder to get the remaining thin set off the floor so that the floor is flat for the next flooring you will be putting down. You will now clean up the tile, thin set and grout. Make sure floor is clear of all debris before trying to install new flooring. DIY Tile Removal Phoenix Arizona
